Inspirational Story: A Speech from a Guest Speaker
This speech was happen during my high school graduation. Our speaker was Mr. Ramoncito Paden. He told us about his life story from a very poor to a very rich life. His father was farmer and his mother was an ordinary housewife. They lived in a simple life. He said his father was a “lassenggo” and doesn’t care about their life. He wants to escape the life he had but he couldn’t for the reason that they were a “family”. In order to improve their life, he used to sell vegetables together with his mother in their barrio. He studied very hard and graduated “valedictorian” in his elementary years. During his high school he was enrolled in a private school (which is also my alma mater) runned by the Religious Sisters of Mercy. He got a scholarship until 4th year. He said during their graduation, he was happy and at the same time sad. He was happy for he graduated as “salutatorian” and sad for his parents could not afford to send him to college. He was not able to study for years. So he decided to go to his aunt in Manila, who was rumored to be a rich. With courage, he went to Manila without a ticket from a ship. He was with the animals in the ship during travel time. During meal time, he used to eat the chicken’s egg. Arriving in Manila, he was so surprised that his aunt was just a maid of a rich man. Knowing that situation, he was so hopeless. He then became a “boy” of a rich man. The rich man know that Ramon wants to go to college. The rich man helped him to pursue his studies. Mr. Paden was then enrolled to a university in Manila with the course of Computer Engineering. He graduated, landed a good paying job and now He is working in Canada. He stated in his speech, that “Patience is really a virtue that one must possess”.

MY UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
My unforgettable experience was happened last sunday. I think it was funny. I woke up early with a bite of a cockroach in my upper left eyelid, it was protruding and very itchy. That day also was my whole day class in ROTC training. The bad news was that we didn't won the last drill competition, so it means we are obliged to make "push-ups". Since I was not in new haircut, my hair was being cut by an officer in a "X" form, that was so disgusting. My other companions were all laughing at my own misery. I also laughed at myself for such funny things happened to me.
In the morning that day we were all in BDA attire, perspiration coming out from our bodies for we were all marching, drilling, and some physical exercises. Then lunch break came, we are told by our officer to bring each a meal which is good for 3 persons, a bottle of water and a sugar banana. I thought we will be sharing our "baons" to others but to my surprised, each should ate each those good for 3 person's lunch. The officer told us to eat in an inverted square meals, with sugar banana on our head, we should not allow the banana to fall in the ground while eating. First was to drink all the waters we have, followed by the viand, then the rice.
After lunch, my tummy was bulging that I also couldn't breath because of my medic belt. Then we were all given a break. The whole afternoon was a boring Red Cross First Aid Training. Before the seminar ended the hard rain falls. Then finally I got home wet all over, tired and so sleepy. That was my funny unforgettable experience.

AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE
Pollution is the undesirable change in the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the environment. It may harmfully affect human life, plants and animals, industrial and commercial processes, recreational and cultural assets. One of the most common air related problem is the photochemical smog. What is a Photochemical smog? As define by the science dictionary, A photochemical smog is the result of pollutions from the exhausts of vehicles (particularly nitrogen oxide & hydrocarbons) and factory smokestacks. One of the major products of the photochemical reaction is the formation of ozone at the ground level. These gases (nitrogen oxide, nitric acid, peroxyacyl nitrates, aldehydes, & hydrocarbons)cause eye and throat irritation, impaired lung function, nausea & headache to humans, and damage trees & various crops. As a biology student, it is in our own way on how cope up with this problem for we deals about life. One way is a signature campaign, trying the government to act on this common problem.
Hero
There are a lot of heroes nowadays. Heroes in movies, in books and in real life. For me, I could define a hero for his/her great contribution to a society. My hero is Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino. Why? because he offer his life to the Filipino people to restore back the democracy in our country. I couldn't forget the saying of Ninoy which is "Filipinos are worth dying for".
I can't forget him whenever I could hear the word "hero" for we have the same Birthdate - Nov.27 and his death anniversary was my mother's birthdate - Aug.21, and my nickname is "Benigno". Besides, he has done so much to our country by being the biggest critic to the dictatorial government of Marcos. He even sacrifice, for his family's safety was at stake that time. Eventhough, he was warned not to return to the Philippines, he still went home. Ninoy died offering his life to us for we are worth dying for.

CARPENTERS GIFT
Building bridges or making a wall?
The Story is all about how people should cope up with a situation like in a conflict. It's in our responsibility to how we react if we are in that situation. As humans, we have different views in that situation, but it's up to us if we should be a wall builder or a bridge builder.

PERSONAL REACTION: ALL ABOUT MANNERS
Activity 4
Good manners are of vital importance today. In our society now, our proper manners are declining, even saying some kind phrases like "thank you" , "sorry" , "welcome" , "excuse me" and so on are not prevalent in our generation.
We should practice it to ourselves first, in order to show to others or to the younger generation that we still have the values of being kind, respectful and polite. Manners are not just in words but also it is shown with our actions, like giving the priority first to the older people, disable people and to children. We should be considerate to them. We must also practice that actions being considerate.
We should create or transform our society in a new place with people possessing good manners at all time.

REFLECTION: STORY OF HANI
Activity 3
I would like to start my reflection with a saying from the story, " It is not intelligent alone that bring success, but also the drive yo succeed, the commitment to work hard and the courage to believe in yourself".
The story of Hani, is a story of success. A very inspiring one which teaches the characteristics to be a successful one. Being diligent, commitment, hard work, and believing in yourself. In order to be successful, we should like be Hani, which posses that characteristics. Not just intelligence or brain can make as successful but also the determination to reach that goal. Not all successful person are intelligent, it's just that you believe in yourself that you can do it, just giving your best shot in everything you do.
Best formula for being Successful, being focus to you goal paired with diligence.

My Favorite Movie
Activity 2
Pearl Harbor, a movie directed by Michael Bay. Written by Randal Wallace. An Oscar Awarded Movie with another 10 wins and 35 nominations. The Genre of the movie includes action, drama, romance & war with a tagline: "It takes a moment to change history. It takes love to change lives". The movie was released on May 25, 2001. Starring the main character Ben Affleck as Capt. Rafe McCawley, Josh Harnett as Capt. Danny Walker and Kate Beckinsale as Nurse Lt. Evelyn Johnson. Faith Hill sangs the sound track "There You'll Be".
Pearl Harbor is a classic tale of romance set during war that complicates everything. It all starts when childhood best of friends Rafe & Danny became an Army Air Corps pilots & meet Evelyn a Navy nurse. Rafe falls in love head over heels with Evelyn. The two begun dating for a month. Then, Rafe volunteers to go fight in Britain. Evelyn & Danny transferred to Pearl Harbor. In Japan, meanwhile Admiral Yamamoto plans an attack on Pearl Harbor after U.S. freezes it's trade. Rafe was shot down over the English channel & pressumed "killed in action". Three months later, Evelyn & Danny bond over the longing for Rafe. Soon after thinking that Rafe was dead. They started a new relationship. Abruptly, Rafe returns causing Danny & Evelyn relationship to estrange Rafe from them. After a fight between the two men, it seems the two are beginning to reconcile. The next morning, on December 7, 1941 they are interrupted by Japanese attack. Then the two fight in World War II & became heroes. They were both promoted & assigned to top secret mission with Colonel Doolittle. They were captured in China. Danny gives his life to save Rafe from a bullet. Before passing away, Danny says to Rafe that he should be the father of Evelyn's child. Then Danny died. The film ends with Rafe, Evelyn & Danny Jr (Danny's Son) visiting Danny gravesite. Then Rafe & Danny Jr. get into Rafe's airplane & flies into the sunset.
Here are some memorable quotes from my favorite movie:
"There's nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer". -Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle.
"A brilliant man would find a way not to fight a war". -Admiral Yamamoto.
"If I had one more night to live. I'd wanna spent it with you". -Evelyn.
"Every night I watch the sunset & soak up every last ray of it's warmth & send it from my heart to yours". -Evelyn.
"The smart enemy attacks you exactly where you think you are safe". -Admiral Kimmel.
"I'd never ask for anything again, If I could see you one more time, & you know what? I was worth it". -Rafe.
"Victory belongs to those who believe in it the most & believe in it the longest". -Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle.
"You know, the only thing that scares me is that you might love him more than you love me". -Danny.
I was watching this true to life movie more than 10 times. I really love this movie for it is really happens in History of World War II. This movie teaches the values of Love not just on a special someone but also Love your best friend & especially your country. It also teaches the watchers to respond to the call of duty, acceptance, forgiveness, sacrifices & friendship. I think the movie teaches us a lot. You should watch this movie.

My Mission in Life
Activity 1
God gives us mission. Everybody has its own mission. A mission that s/he should fulfills in his or her lifetime. A mission that we and the people around us should carry out and hand-in-hand to make this earth a better place to live. Some people already did their part. Some became a saint. Some became a hero. Some of them also died because of doing what we call "Mission in Life".
There is this quote in my mind saying "We are never given dreams without also being given the power to make that dreams possible". As for myself, I'm a dreamer. I am always a dreamer. I always dream to be a successful person. I always dream to have this big fantastic house, a luxurious car, a gainful business, a one-click type high-tech gadgets and so on. Honestly, I admit it to myself. I'm feeling so ambitious and so materialistic. Maybe those dreams and desires can wreck me out.
Then, I began to ask myself. Could those things make me happy? Could those things satisfy me as human? Could those things label me as successful? Could those things can fulfill my mission? Maybe yes, maybe no or maybe partly. But then, there is a part of me that keeps pushing me to help people, not in that heroic type or saint like. I could help by my own ways.
My mission is to help myself first, in order that I could help other people in the near future especially my family. I will do good in my studies. And be prepared for what God wants me to do. Maybe I feel this way, because I experienced being a needy fellow who needs help. I don't want to feel that damn feeling anymore. Being needy but only a few helps me. And that "few" is my family only.
You, do you know what is your mission in life? I just want to share this "The world is not an enemy but a friend as long as we do our best of whomever we are".
