Inspirational Story: A Speech from a Guest Speaker

This speech was happen during my high school graduation. Our speaker was Mr. Ramoncito Paden. He told us about his life story from a very poor to a very rich life. His father was farmer and his mother was an ordinary housewife. They lived in a simple life. He said his father was a “lassenggo” and doesn’t care about their life. He wants to escape the life he had but he couldn’t for the reason that they were a “family”. In order to improve their life, he used to sell vegetables together with his mother in their barrio. He studied very hard and graduated “valedictorian” in his elementary years. During his high school he was enrolled in a private school (which is also my alma mater) runned by the Religious Sisters of Mercy. He got a scholarship until 4th year. He said during their graduation, he was happy and at the same time sad. He was happy for he graduated as “salutatorian” and sad for his parents could not afford to send him to college. He was not able to study for years. So he decided to go to his aunt in Manila, who was rumored to be a rich. With courage, he went to Manila without a ticket from a ship. He was with the animals in the ship during travel time. During meal time, he used to eat the chicken’s egg. Arriving in Manila, he was so surprised that his aunt was just a maid of a rich man. Knowing that situation, he was so hopeless. He then became a “boy” of a rich man. The rich man know that Ramon wants to go to college. The rich man helped him to pursue his studies. Mr. Paden was then enrolled to a university in Manila with the course of Computer Engineering. He graduated, landed a good paying job and now He is working in Canada. He stated in his speech, that “Patience is really a virtue that one must possess”.

The Camiguin Island was said to be a “Sleeping Princess” because it looks like a girl sleeping. According to the legend, the so-called princess was force to married a prince from the other kingdom. MY UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE

My unforgettable experience was happened last sunday. I think it was funny. I woke up early with a bite of a cockroach in my upper left eyelid, it was protruding and very itchy. That day also was my whole day class in ROTC training. The bad news was that we didn't won the last drill competition, so it means we are obliged to make "push-ups". Since I was not in new haircut, my hair was being cut by an officer in a "X" form, that was so disgusting. My other companions were all laughing at my own misery. I also laughed at myself for such funny things happened to me.

In the morning that day we were all in BDA attire, perspiration coming out from our bodies for we were all marching, drilling, and some physical exercises. Then lunch break came, we are told by our officer to bring each a meal which is good for 3 persons, a bottle of water and a sugar banana. I thought we will be sharing our "baons" to others but to my surprised, each should ate each those good for 3 person's lunch. The officer told us to eat in an inverted square meals, with sugar banana on our head, we should not allow the banana to fall in the ground while eating. First was to drink all the waters we have, followed by the viand, then the rice.

After lunch, my tummy was bulging that I also couldn't breath because of my medic belt. Then we were all given a break. The whole afternoon was a boring Red Cross First Aid Training. Before the seminar ended the hard rain falls. Then finally I got home wet all over, tired and so sleepy. That was my funny unforgettable experience.

AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE

Pollution is the undesirable change in the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the environment. It may harmfully affect human life, plants and animals, industrial and commercial processes, recreational and cultural assets. One of the most common air related problem is the photochemical smog. What is a Photochemical smog? As define by the science dictionary, A photochemical smog is the result of pollutions from the exhausts of vehicles (particularly nitrogen oxide & hydrocarbons) and factory smokestacks. One of the major products of the photochemical reaction is the formation of ozone at the ground level. These gases (nitrogen oxide, nitric acid, peroxyacyl nitrates, aldehydes, & hydrocarbons)cause eye and throat irritation, impaired lung function, nausea & headache to humans, and damage trees & various crops. As a biology student, it is in our own way on how cope up with this problem for we deals about life. One way is a signature campaign, trying the government to act on this common problem.

Hero

There are a lot of heroes nowadays. Heroes in movies, in books and in real life. For me, I could define a hero for his/her great contribution to a society. My hero is Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino. Why? because he offer his life to the Filipino people to restore back the democracy in our country. I couldn't forget the saying of Ninoy which is "Filipinos are worth dying for".

I can't forget him whenever I could hear the word "hero" for we have the same Birthdate - Nov.27 and his death anniversary was my mother's birthdate - Aug.21, and my nickname is "Benigno". Besides, he has done so much to our country by being the biggest critic to the dictatorial government of Marcos. He even sacrifice, for his family's safety was at stake that time. Eventhough, he was warned not to return to the Philippines, he still went home. Ninoy died offering his life to us for we are worth dying for.
